Keeping Thoughts Positive
To come to the point of being able to keep negative thoughts to ourselves with ever increasing frequency is a tremendous step forward. As this control is maintained, we gradually stop reacting negatively to others until little or no effort is required.

I am glad to know that the known result of this effort is that eventually the negative reactions will lessen! I spend too much of my energy suppressing these negative responses to the news, to others’ actions or reactions! Not listening is one solution, but complete evasion is not realistic. Turning my thoughts to a positive, a memory, a scene, noting some pretty thing nearby as soon as I see the negativity rising in my mind, helps. Being consistent is so hard.
If only I could control my negative thoughts and impulsive old behavior when I’m faced with challenging or unsettling conditions, I could be better able to help anyone affected by the condition, rather than being a part of the problem. It is definitely a goal worth striving for.
I like the way you connected your efforts, to being able to better help others. I needed to remember that, thanks!
