Love Our Neighbors
Christ gave us the Golden Rule, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and told us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. These were the admonitions He knew to be essential to harmonizing our environments.

In my experience, this concept is rarely spoken out loud. Recently this came to my attention. I have a neighbor who has been giving me chess lessons. He has a lot of fine qualities, and we get along well. One day I signed off on an internet chat, “Love you, Angela.” I do this all the time with family and friends.
He wrote back, saying he was “glad I did, but did not know how to react, or what to say.” I realized he was struggling with that word. Love.
So, I typed back, “Oh I am sorry. It’s not like romantic love, I am John’s for the rest of my life, but love as in ” Love your neighbor as yourself” type of love. You are very lovable.”
He was quite relieved! We laughed. I then thought about it for a while.
It seems people are not expecting to be “loved” by their neighbors! Or to love them. Maybe they think that “Love” is always about pairing off. But it is so much more: Treating each other with genuine respect, allowing each one his dignity, deliberately considering different opinions, or point of view, easing a burden, or listening when needed…
I hope we all can do as Christ admonished us all, be genuinely more loving toward each other. We do not need to say “Love” out loud, or in texts, we can and must do it with our actions.
A lovely story about love, Angela.
I am so fortunate to have found this study! It has brought so much joy and peace as I navigate life! I was always overdoing, jumping into things whole heartedly, but lacking the discrimination, patience and generally, balance, making folks uncomfortable along the way. Knowing I can learn, grow and eventually succeed in gaining some control over myself is very reassuring. I am glad for my patient Lemurian teachers!
